UC24 - the Out of Hours Service
What to do if you need a doctor outside of normal surgery hours
If you need urgent medical advice outside normal surgery opening hours and it cannot wait, ring 7635 7100. You will hear a recorded message giving you information on how to contact the out of hours service, UC24.
If you experience a problem getting through to UC24, please ring George Eliot Hospital on 7635 1351 and ask to be put through to UC24.
Alternatively, you can contact NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 for medical advice.
What Will Happen?
A number of services may be offered:
- The out-of-hours doctor will advise you over the telephone of self-help treatment you can carry out yourself
- You will be asked to meet the doctor at the Primary Care Emergency Centre (based at George Eliot Hospital) and be given a time for you to attend
- The out-of-hours doctor will visit you at home if you are unfit to travel
- The out-of-hours doctor will call an emergency ambulance.
